I have been writing since I was a child. My first publication was a personal narrative I wrote for my sixth-grade English class that won a national contest and appeared in a writing textbook the next year. Since then, I’ve self-published a novel, but most of my writing as an adult has its roots in scholarship or marketing.
I spent six years of intensive graduate study learning to hone my writing skills and develop a keen editorial eye. Writing a dissertation is like taking a master class in project management. I spent two years writing mine—a 335-page book, comprising five chapters and an extensive bibliography. Then, as graduate students do, I synthesized the entire project into a three-sentence elevator pitch.
Currently, I write and edit a variety of content from long-form articles to microcopy for websites and marketing materials. I believe that clear, effective communication starts with understanding content, context, and audience. It’s what I do every day.
